Pharaoh therefore had Joseph summoned, and they hurriedly brought him from the dungeon. After he shaved and changed his clothes, he came to Pharaoh.

Then Jehoiachin, king of Judah, together with his mother, his ministers, officers, and functionaries, surrendered to the king of Babylon, who, in the eighth year of his reign, took him captive.

Jehoiakim rested with his ancestors, and his son Jehoiachin succeeded him as king.

They slew Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes; then they put out his eyes, bound him with fetters, and brought him to Babylon.

He sets up the lowly on high, and those who mourn are raised to safety.

I saw all the living, those who move about under the sun, with the second youth who will succeed him.

The Lord’s anointed—our very lifebreath!— was caught in their snares, He in whose shade we thought to live among the nations.

When this period was over, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes to heaven; my reason was restored to me, and I blessed the Most High, I praised and glorified the One who lives forever, Whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and whose kingdom endures through all generations.

He raises the needy from the dust; from the ash heap lifts up the poor, To seat them with nobles and make a glorious throne their heritage. “For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he has set the world upon them.
