You, who swelter in your clothes when calm lies over the land from the south,

Out of its chamber the tempest comes forth; from the north winds, the cold.

He commanded and roused a storm wind; it tossed the waves on high.

He hushed the storm to silence, the waves of the sea were stilled.

All rivers flow to the sea, yet never does the sea become full. To the place where they flow, the rivers continue to flow.

Just as you do not know how the life breath enters the human frame in the mother’s womb, So you do not know the work of God, who is working in everything.

The Lord, however, hurled a great wind upon the sea, and the storm was so great that the ship was about to break up.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.

The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
