but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, either you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your ox or donkey or any work animal, or the resident alien within your gates, so that your male and female slave may rest as you do.

On the seventh day God completed the work he had been doing; he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had undertaken.

In those days I perceived that people in Judah were treading the wine presses on the sabbath; that they were bringing in sheaves of grain, loading them on their donkeys, together with wine, grapes, figs, and every other kind of load, and bringing them to Jerusalem on the sabbath day. I warned them to sell none of these provisions.

In Jerusalem itself the Tyrians residing there were importing fish and every other kind of merchandise and selling it to the Judahites on the sabbath.

but then I warned them: “Why do you spend the night alongside the wall? If you keep this up, I will beat you!” From that time on, they did not return on the sabbath.

And though these are our own kindred, and our children are as good as theirs, we have had to reduce our sons and daughters to slavery, and violence has been done to some of our daughters! Yet we can do nothing about it, for our fields and vineyards belong to others.”

For six days you may do your work, but on the seventh day you must rest, that your ox and your donkey may have rest, and that the son of your maidservant and the resident alien may be refreshed.

For six days work may be done; but the seventh day is a sabbath of complete rest, a declared holy day; you shall do no work. It is the Lord’s sabbath wherever you dwell. Passover.

Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath.

they returned and prepared spices and perfumed oils. Then they rested on the sabbath according to the commandment.

Six days you may labor and do all your work,

For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this manner, “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works”;
