On Mount Sinai you came down, you spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances, true laws, good statutes and commandments;

Now Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the Lord had come down upon it in fire. The smoke rose from it as though from a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled violently.

The blast of the shofar grew louder and louder, while Moses was speaking and God was answering him with thunder.

The Lord said to Moses: I am coming to you now in a dense cloud, so that when the people hear me speaking with you, they will also remain faithful to you. When Moses, then, had reported the response of the people to the Lord,

The glory of the Lord settled upon Mount Sinai. The cloud covered it for six days, and on the seventh day he called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.

Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; there was only a voice.

Because you saw no form at all on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, be strictly on your guard

Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of fire, as you did, and live?

So you must know in your heart that, even as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord, your God, disciplines you.

You have not approached that which could be touched and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm

See that you do not reject the one who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much more in our case if we turn away from the one who warns from heaven.
