The Lord will beat down before you the enemies that rise up against you; they will come out against you from one direction, and flee before you in seven.

One of you puts to flight a thousand, because it is the Lord, your God, himself who fights for you, as he promised you.

Since those in the city came out to intercept them, Ai’s army was hemmed in by Israelites on both sides, who cut them down without any fugitives or survivors
