When you have come into the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you, and have taken possession of it and settled in it, should you then decide, “I will set a king over me, like all the surrounding nations,”

When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you to possess, if I put a fungal infection in any house of the land you occupy,

You will take possession of the land and settle in it, for I have given you the land to possess.

Now you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you. When, therefore, you take possession of it and settle there,

When you come into the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you, you shall not learn to imitate the abominations of the nations there.

When you have come into the land which the Lord, your God, is giving you as a heritage, and have taken possession and settled in it,

and brought us to this place, and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

When the Lord, your God, brings you into the land which you are about to enter to possess, and removes many nations before you—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you—

“Remember what Moses, the servant of the Lord, commanded you when he said, ‘The Lord, your God, is about to give you rest; he will give you this land.’

And so the Lord gave Israel the entire land he had sworn to their ancestors he would give them. Once they had taken possession of it, and dwelt in it,

But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your evils and calamities, by saying, ‘No! You must appoint a king over us.’ Now, therefore, take your stand before the Lord according to your tribes and families.”

Samuel next explained to the people the rules of the monarchy, wrote them in a book, and placed them before the presence of the Lord. Samuel then sent the people back to their own homes.

They said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for us, your servants, that we may not die for having added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.”

Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I myself will tell you what to do; you are to anoint for me the one I point out to you. Samuel Anoints David.

He told them: “The governance of the king who will rule you will be as follows: He will take your sons and assign them to his chariots and horses, and they will run before his chariot.
