Hezekiah held fast to the Lord and never turned away from following him, but observed the commandments the Lord had given Moses.

Let love be sincere; hate what is evil, hold on to what is good;

For if you are careful to observe this entire commandment I am giving you, loving the Lord, your God, following his ways exactly, and holding fast to him,

do not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer; for the Lord, your God, is testing you to know whether you really love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and soul.

by loving the Lord, your God, obeying his voice, and holding fast to him. For that will mean life for you, a long life for you to live on the land which the Lord swore to your ancestors, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to them.

but you, who held fast to the Lord, your God, are all alive today.

You shall not invoke the name of the Lord, your God, in vain. For the Lord will not leave unpunished anyone who invokes his name in vain.

Would that they might always be of such a mind, to fear me and to keep all my commandments! Then they and their descendants would prosper forever.

or mingling with these nations that survive among you. You must not invoke their gods by name, or swear by them, or serve them, or bow down to them,

but you must hold fast to the Lord, your God, as you have done up to this day.

Then Samuel addressed the whole house of Israel: “If you would return to the Lord with your whole heart, remove your foreign gods and your Astartes, fix your hearts on the Lord, and serve him alone, then the Lord will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.”
