Then the princes and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve a death sentence; it is in the name of the Lord, our God, that he speaks to us.”

At this, some of the elders of the land arose and said to the whole assembly of the people,

And though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.

After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions,

One day as Jesus was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem, and the power of the Lord was with him for healing.

Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?

“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city. At the feet of Gamaliel I was educated strictly in our ancestral law and was zealous for God, just as all of you are today.

So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying,

When they heard this, they went to the temple early in the morning and taught. When the high priest and his companions arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin, the full senate of the Israelites, and sent to the jail to have them brought in.

When they had brought them in and made them stand before the Sanhedrin, the high priest questioned them,

and said to them, “Fellow Israelites, be careful what you are about to do to these men.
