“Men, why are you doing this? We are of the same nature as you, human beings. We proclaim to you good news that you should turn from these idols to the living God, ‘who made heaven and earth and sea and all that is in them.’

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth—

“It is not I,” Joseph replied to Pharaoh, “but God who will respond for the well-being of Pharaoh.”

because of all the sins which Baasha and his son Elah committed and caused Israel to commit, provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger by their idols.

In every way he imitated the sinful conduct of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and the sin he had caused Israel to commit, thus provoking the Lord, the God of Israel, to anger by their idols.

By the Lord’s word the heavens were made; by the breath of his mouth all their host.

For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord has blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.

For thus says the Lord, The creator of the heavens, who is God, The designer and maker of the earth who established it, Not as an empty waste did he create it, but designing it to be lived in: I am the Lord, and there is no other.

Come and assemble, gather together, you fugitives from among the nations! They are without knowledge who bear wooden idols and pray to gods that cannot save.

They lift it to their shoulders to carry; when they set it down, it stays, and does not move from the place. They cry out to it, but it cannot answer; it delivers no one from distress.

One and all they are stupid and senseless, the instruction from nonentities—only wood!

Among the idols of the nations are there any that give rain? Or can the mere heavens send showers? Is it not you, Lord, our God, to whom we look? You alone do all these things.

Ah, my Lord God! You made the heavens and the earth with your great power and your outstretched arm; nothing is too difficult for you.

He made the earth by his power, established the world by wisdom, and by his skill stretched out the heavens.

Listen! the cry of the daughter of my people, far and wide in the land! “Is the Lord no longer in Zion, is her King no longer in her midst?” Why do they provoke me with their idols, with their foreign nonentities?

Then King Darius wrote to the nations and peoples of every language, wherever they dwell on the earth: “May your peace abound!

Therefore, keep up your courage, men; I trust in God that it will turn out as I have been told.

And when they heard it, they raised their voices to God with one accord and said, “Sovereign Lord, maker of heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them,

The next day he appeared to them as they were fighting and tried to reconcile them peacefully, saying, ‘Men, you are brothers. Why are you harming one another?’

So about the eating of meat sacrificed to idols: we know that “there is no idol in the world,” and that “there is no God but one.”

So I declare and testify in the Lord that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds;

Since they have incited me with a “no-god,” and provoked me with their empty idols, I will incite them with a “no-people”; with a foolish nation I will provoke them.

For what mortal has heard the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of fire, as we have, and lived?

For they themselves openly declare about us what sort of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God

But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth.

Take care, brothers, that none of you may have an evil and unfaithful heart, so as to forsake the living God.

Elijah was a human being like us; yet he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain upon the land.

He continued: “By this you will know that there is a living God in your midst: he will certainly dispossess before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.

He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, for his time has come to sit in judgment. Worship him who made heaven and earth and sea and springs of water.”

I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t! I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brothers who bear witness to Jesus. Worship God. Witness to Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” The King of Kings.

Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered to fight against the one riding the horse and against his army.

But he said to me, “Don’t! I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brothers the prophets and of those who keep the message of this book. Worship God.”

“Worthy are you, Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things; because of your will they came to be and were created.”

Do not turn aside to gods who are nothing, who cannot act and deliver. They are nothing.

David now said to the men standing near him: “How will the man who kills this Philistine and frees Israel from disgrace be rewarded? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should insult the armies of the living God?”

Your servant has killed both a lion and a bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be as one of them, because he has insulted the armies of the living God.”
