Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that arose because of Stephen went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to no one but Jews.

Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

So the Jews said to one another, “Where is he going that we will not find him? Surely he is not going to the dispersion among the Greeks to teach the Greeks, is he?

There were some Cypriots and Cyrenians among them, however, who came to Antioch and began to speak to the Greeks as well, proclaiming the Lord Jesus.

The news about them reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas [to go] to Antioch.

Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

So they, sent forth by the holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus.

Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, “It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

From there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now accomplished.

Then the apostles and presbyters, in agreement with the whole church, decided to choose representatives and to send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. The ones chosen were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leaders among the brothers.

They were sent on their journey by the church, and passed through Phoenicia and Samaria telling of the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers.

And so they were sent on their journey. Upon their arrival in Antioch they called the assembly together and delivered the letter.

But Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming with many others the word of the Lord. Paul and Barnabas Separate.

So sharp was their disagreement that they separated. Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus.

Upon landing at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the church and then went down to Antioch.

Some of the disciples from Caesarea came along to lead us to the house of Mnason, a Cypriot, a disciple of long standing, with whom we were to stay.

Finding a ship crossing to Phoenicia, we went on board and put out to sea.

For you first, God raised up his servant and sent him to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways.”

Thus Joseph, also named by the apostles Barnabas (which is translated “son of encouragement”), a Levite, a Cypriot by birth,

The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the holy Spirit, also Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

And when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he clearly was wrong.
