But Asa became angry with the seer and imprisoned him in the stocks, so greatly was he enraged at him over this. Asa also oppressed some of his people at this time.

But the Jews became jealous and recruited some worthless men loitering in the public square, formed a mob, and set the city in turmoil. They marched on the house of Jason, intending to bring them before the people’s assembly.

So be vigilant and remember that for three years, night and day, I unceasingly admonished each of you with tears.

The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue him from their midst and take him into the compound.

he said, “I shall hear your case when your accusers arrive.” Then he ordered that he be held in custody in Herod’s praetorium.

Two years passed and Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Wishing to ingratiate himself with the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.

and I did so in Jerusalem. I imprisoned many of the holy ones with the authorization I received from the chief priests, and when they were to be put to death I cast my vote against them.

Paul replied, “I would pray to God that sooner or later not only you but all who listen to me today might become as I am except for these chains.”

He remained for two full years in his lodgings. He received all who came to him,

laid hands upon the apostles and put them in the public jail.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been ineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the grace of God [that is] with me.

To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad and roughly treated, we wander about homeless

Do not deprive each other, except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, to be free for prayer, but then return to one another, so that Satan may not tempt you through your lack of self-control.

in toil and hardship, through many sleepless nights, through hunger and thirst, through frequent fastings, through cold and exposure.

Because of this, I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ [Jesus] for you Gentiles—

Forty lashes may be given, but no more; or else, if more lashes are added to these many blows, your brother will be degraded in your sight. Treatment of Oxen.

so that my imprisonment has become well known in Christ throughout the whole praetorium and to all the rest,

You recall, brothers, our toil and drudgery. Working night and day in order not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

For this we toil and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the savior of all, especially of those who believe.

So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.

for which I am suffering, even to the point of chains, like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained.

But you, be self-possessed in all circumstances; put up with hardship; perform the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry. Reward for Fidelity.

Others endured mockery, scourging, even chains and imprisonment.

Obey your leaders and defer to them, for they keep watch over you and will have to give an account, that they may fulfill their task with joy and not with sorrow, for that would be of no advantage to you.

I must let you know that our brother Timothy has been set free. If he comes soon, I shall see you together with him.

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
