The Lord God made for the man and his wife garments of skin, with which he clothed them.

On Mount Sinai you came down, you spoke with them from heaven; You gave them just ordinances, true laws, good statutes and commandments;

I long for your salvation, Lord; your law is my delight.

How I love your law, Lord! I study it all day long.

The Lord said to Moses: Come up to me on the mountain and, while you are there, I will give you the stone tablets on which I have written the commandments intended for their instruction.

When the Lord had finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant, the stone tablets inscribed by God’s own finger.

As he drew near the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger burned, and he threw the tablets down and broke them on the base of the mountain.

The Lord said to Moses: “Cut two stone tablets like the former, that I may write on them the words which were on the former tablets that you broke.

All those who sat in the Sanhedrin looked intently at him and saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

For Christ is the end of the law for the justification of everyone who has faith.

For the law produces wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there violation.

The law entered in so that transgression might increase but, where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more,

then I died, and the commandment that was for life turned out to be death for me.

For I take delight in the law of God, in my inner self,

For when we were in the flesh, our sinful passions, awakened by the law, worked in our members to bear fruit for death.

but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

shown to be a letter of Christ administered by us, written not in ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets that are hearts of flesh.

who has indeed qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit; for the letter brings death, but the Spirit gives life. Contrast with the Old Covenant.

how much more will the ministry of the Spirit be glorious?

For all who depend on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not persevere in doing all the things written in the book of the law.”

Is the law then opposed to the promises [of God]? Of course not! For if a law had been given that could bring life, then righteousness would in reality come from the law.

He proclaimed to you his covenant, which he commanded you to keep: the ten words, which he wrote on two stone tablets.

Or what great nation has statutes and ordinances that are as just as this whole law which I am setting before you today? Revelation at Horeb.

These words the Lord spoke with a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from the midst of the fire and the dense black cloud, and added no more. He inscribed them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

When I had come down again from the blazing, fiery mountain, with the two tablets of the covenant in both my hands,

You have not approached that which could be touched and a blazing fire and gloomy darkness and storm

But he is worthy of more “glory” than Moses, as the founder of a house has more “honor” than the house itself.

in which were the gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant entirely covered with gold. In it were the gold jar containing the manna, the staff of Aaron that had sprouted, and the tablets of the covenant.
