After this he left Athens and went to Corinth.

Crispus, the synagogue official, came to believe in the Lord along with his entire household, and many of the Corinthians who heard believed and were baptized.

God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in proclaiming the gospel of his Son, that I remember you constantly,

I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie; my conscience joins with the holy Spirit in bearing me witness

By the truth of Christ in me, this boast of mine shall not be silenced in the regions of Achaia.

And why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!

The God and Father of the Lord Jesus knows, he who is blessed forever, that I do not lie.

For I fear that when I come I may find you not such as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish; that there may be rivalry, jealousy, fury, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, and disorder.

I am writing this while I am away, so that when I come I may not have to be severe in virtue of the authority that the Lord has given me to build up and not to tear down.

I warned those who sinned earlier and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not be lenient,

by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in a holy spirit, in unfeigned love,

(As to what I am writing to you, behold, before God, I am not lying.)

For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.

Nor, indeed, did we ever appear with flattering speech, as you know, or with a pretext for greed—God is witness—

among them Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.
