At that time, as the number of disciples continued to grow, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.

So Peter got up and went with them. When he arrived, they took him to the room upstairs where all the widows came to him weeping and showing him the tunics and cloaks that Dorcas had made while she was with them.

He gave her his hand and raised her up, and when he had called the holy ones and the widows, he presented her alive.

that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by one another’s faith, yours and mine.

Through him we have received the grace of apostleship, to bring about the obedience of faith, for the sake of his name, among all the Gentiles,

I should like you to be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord.

and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit. A married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

With all prayer and supplication, pray at every opportunity in the Spirit. To that end, be watchful with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones

Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.

First of all, then, I ask that supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings be offered for everyone,

If any woman believer has widowed relatives, she must assist them; the church is not to be burdened, so that it will be able to help those who are truly widows. Rules for Presbyters.

Honor widows who are truly widows.

I am grateful to God, whom I worship with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, as I remember you constantly in my prayers, night and day.

For this is also how the holy women who hoped in God once used to adorn themselves and were subordinate to their husbands;

May the Lord reward what you have done! May you receive a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”
