I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and an arrogant man, but I have been mercifully treated because I acted out of ignorance in my unbelief.

Now in regard to virgins I have no commandment from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.

For you heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it,

in zeal I persecuted the church, in righteousness based on the law I was blameless. Righteousness from God.

But for that reason I was mercifully treated, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life.

So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.
