after ten days they looked healthier and better fed than any of the young men who ate from the royal table.

He fasted for forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was hungry.

and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. The Beginning of the Galilean Ministry.

for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were over he was hungry.

but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me.

Then, as before, I lay prostrate before the Lord for forty days and forty nights; I ate no food, I drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed in the sight of the Lord, doing wrong and provoking him.
