When the sun had set and it was dark, there appeared a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch, which passed between those pieces.

The Lord’s fire came down and devoured the burnt offering, wood, stones, and dust, and lapped up the water in the trench.

Elijah answered the captain, “Well, if I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.

There the angel of the Lord appeared to him as fire flaming out of a bush. When he looked, although the bush was on fire, it was not being consumed.

So the Lord passed before him and proclaimed: The Lord, the Lord, a God gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in love and fidelity,

Then he said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, and not by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts.

And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were.

Because you saw no form at all on the day the Lord spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, be strictly on your guard

Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of fire, as you did, and live?

For our God is a consuming fire.
