and moreover the king’s servants have come to pay their respects to our lord, King David, saying, ‘May your God make Solomon’s name more famous than your name, his throne greater than your throne!’ And the king in his bed did homage.

But his father demanded, “Swear it to me!” So Joseph swore to him. Then Israel bowed at the head of the bed.

David said to the Gibeonites, “What must I do for you and how must I make atonement, that you may bless the heritage of the Lord?”

Toi sent his son Hadoram to wish King David well and to congratulate him on having waged a victorious war against Hadadezer; for Hadadezer had been at war with Toi. Hadoram also brought with him articles of silver, gold, and bronze.

As the Lord has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon, and make his throne even greater than that of my lord, King David!”
