Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me.

But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

[Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”] They divided his garments by casting lots.

bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

and, because he practiced the same trade, stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.

You know well that these very hands have served my needs and my companions.

Then he fell to his knees and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them”; and when he said this, he fell asleep.

Bless those who persecute [you], bless and do not curse them.

Rather, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.”

What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?

Or is it only myself and Barnabas who do not have the right not to work?

I plundered other churches by accepting from them in order to minister to you.

The thief must no longer steal, but rather labor, doing honest work with his [own] hands, so that he may have something to share with one in need.

You recall, brothers, our toil and drudgery. Working night and day in order not to burden any of you, we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

nor did we eat food received free from anyone. On the contrary, in toil and drudgery, night and day we worked, so as not to burden any of you.

For this we toil and struggle, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the savior of all, especially of those who believe.

When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.

But even if you should suffer because of righteousness, blessed are you. Do not be afraid or terrified with fear of them,

Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing.

As a result, those who suffer in accord with God’s will hand their souls over to a faithful creator as they do good.

Yet the archangel Michael, when he argued with the devil in a dispute over the body of Moses, did not venture to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him but said, “May the Lord rebuke you!”
