To the pure,all thingsare pure;but to thosewho are defiledand unbelieving,nothingis pure,but boththeir mindand their conscienceare defiled.
Haughtyeyesand a proudheart,The lampof the wicked,is sin.
There is a kindwho is purein his own eyes,Yet is not washedfrom his filthiness.
Then Haggaisaid,"Ifone who is uncleanfrom a corpsetouchesanyof these,will [the latter] becomeunclean?"And the priestsanswered,"It will becomeunclean."
"But the things that proceedout of the mouthcomefrom the heart,and thosedefilethe man.
Againa voice[came] to him a second time,"WhatGodhas cleansed,no[longer] considerunholy."
I knowand am convincedin the LordJesusthat nothingis uncleanin itself;but to him who thinksanythingto be unclean,to him it is unclean.
Do not tear downthe workof Godfor the sakeof food.All thingsindeedare clean,but they are evilfor the manwho eatsand givesoffense.
But he who doubtsis condemnedifhe eats,because[his eating is] not from faith;and whateveris not from faithis sin.
Allthingsare lawful,but not allthingsare profitable.All thingsare lawful,but not all thingsedify.
Eatanythingthat is soldin the meat marketwithoutasking questionsfor conscience'sake;
Whether,then,you eatordrinkorwhateveryou do,doallto the gloryof God.
Howevernot all menhave thisknowledge;but some,being accustomedto the idoluntilnow,eat[food] as ifit were sacrificed to an idol;and their consciencebeingweakis defiled.
and constant frictionbetween menof depravedmindand deprivedof the truth,who supposethat godlinessis a means of gain.
let us draw nearwith a sincereheartin full assuranceof faith,having our heartssprinkled[clean] from an evilconscienceand our bodieswashedwith purewater.
Seeto it that noonecomes shortof the graceof God;that norootof bitternessspringingup causes trouble,and by it manybe defiled;
how muchmorewill the bloodof Christ,whothroughthe eternalSpiritofferedHimselfwithout blemishto God,cleanseyour consciencefrom deadworksto servethe livingGod?
