"The merchantsof these things,who became richfrom her, will standat a distancebecauseof the fearof her torment,weepingand mourning,
"Also they will makethemselves baldfor you And girdthemselves with sackcloth;And they will weepfor you in bitternessof soulWith bittermourning.
"Those whobuythem slaythem and gounpunished,and [each of] those who sellthem says,'Blessedbe the LORD,for I have becomerich!'And their own shepherdshavenopityon them.
And He [began] to teachand sayto them, "Is it not written,MY HOUSESHALL BE CALLEDA HOUSEOF PRAYERFOR ALLTHE NATIONS?But you have madeit a ROBBERS'DEN."
But when her masterssawthat their hopeof profitwas gone,they seizedPauland Silasand draggedthem into the market placebeforethe authorities,
cargoesof goldand silverand preciousstonesand pearlsand fine linenand purpleand silkand scarlet,and every[kind of] citronwoodand everyarticleof ivoryand everyarticle[made] from very costlywoodand bronzeand ironand marble,
and cinnamonand spiceand incenseand perfumeand frankincenseand wineand olive oiland fine flourand wheatand cattleand sheep,and [cargoes] of horsesand chariotsand slavesand humanlives.
"The fruityou longfor has gonefrom you, and allthings that were luxuriousand splendidhave passed awayfrom you and [men] will no longerfindthem.
"And they threwduston their headsand were cryingout, weepingand mourning,saying,Woe,woe,the greatcity,in whichallwho hadshipsat seabecame richby her wealth,for in onehourshe has been laid waste!'
"For allthe nationshave drunkof the wineof the passionof her immorality,and the kingsof the earthhave committed [acts of] immoralitywith her, and the merchantsof the earthhave become richby the wealthof her sensuality."
