When the angelstretchedout his handtoward Jerusalemto destroyit, the LORDrelentedfrom the calamityand saidto the angelwho destroyedthe people,"It is enough!Nowrelaxyour hand!"And the angelof the LORDwas by the threshingfloorof Araunahthe Jebusite.
But the LORDwas graciousto them and hadcompassionon them and turnedto them becauseof His covenantwith Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob,and wouldnot destroythem or castthem from His presenceuntilnow.
He didevilin the sightof the LORD,as Manassehhis fatherhad done.
O LORDour God,You answeredthem; You were a forgivingGodto them, And [yet] an avengerof their [evil] deeds.
"For the sakeof My nameI delayMy wrath,And [for] My praiseI restrain[it] for you, In order not to cutyou off.
"Yet My eyesparedthem ratherthandestroyingthem, and I did not causetheir annihilationin the wilderness.
I will not executeMy fierceanger;I will not destroyEphraimagain.For I am Godand not man,the HolyOnein your midst,And I will not comein wrath.
