Thereis a way[which seems] rightto a man,But its endis the wayof death.
The refiningpotis for silverand the furnacefor gold,But the LORDtestshearts.
Everyman'swayis rightin his own eyes,But the LORDweighsthe hearts.
Ifyou say,"See,we did not knowthis,"Does He not consider[it] who weighsthe hearts?And does He not know[it] who keepsyour soul?And will He not renderto manaccording to his work?
There is a kindwho is purein his own eyes,Yet is not washedfrom his filthiness.
For the waysof a manare beforethe eyesof the LORD,And He watchesallhis paths.
The wayof the righteousis smooth;O UprightOne,makethe pathof the righteouslevel.
"I, the LORD,searchthe heart,I testthe mind,Even to giveto eachmanaccording to his ways,According to the resultsof his deeds.
"'TEKEL--you have been weighedon the scalesand founddeficient.
The angelof the LORDsaidto him, "Whyhave you struckyour donkeythesethreetimes?Behold,I have comeout as an adversary,becauseyour waywas contraryto me.
And He saidto them, "You are thosewho justifyyourselvesin the sightof men,but Godknowsyour hearts;for that which is highly esteemedamongmenis detestablein the sightof God.
"And to the angelof the churchin Thyatirawrite:The Sonof God,who haseyeslikea flameof fire,and His feetare likeburnished bronze,saysthis:
And I will killher childrenwith pestilence,and allthe churcheswill knowthat I amHe who searchesthe mindsand hearts;and I will giveto each oneof you accordingto your deeds.
In thosedaystherewas nokingin Israel;everymandidwhatwas rightin his own eyes.
Now the numberof those who lapped,putting their handto their mouth,was 300men;but allthe restof the peoplekneeledto drinkwater.
But the LORDsaidto Samuel,"Do not lookat his appearanceor at the heightof his stature,becauseI have rejectedhim; for God[sees] not as mansees,for manlooksat the outwardappearance,but the LORDlooksat the heart."
"Boastnomoreso veryproudly,Do not let arrogancecomeout of your mouth;For the LORDis a Godof knowledge,And with Him actionsare weighed.
