The citieswhichyou are to giveshall be your sixcitiesof refuge.
To the sonsof Aaronthey gavethe [following] citiesof refuge:Hebron,Libnahalso with its pasturelands,Jattir,Eshtemoawith its pasturelands,
The citiesshall be to you as a refugefrom the avenger,so that the manslayerwill not dieuntilhe standsbeforethe congregationfor trial.
You shall givethreecitiesacrossthe Jordanand threecitiesin the landof Canaan;they are to be citiesof refuge.
"The citieswhichyou shall giveto the Levites[shall be] the sixcitiesof refuge,whichyou shall givefor the manslayerto fleeto; and in additionto them you shall giveforty-twocities.
Thesewere the appointedcitiesfor allthe sonsof Israeland for the strangerwho sojournsamongthem, that whoeverkillsany personunintentionallymay fleethere,and not dieby the handof the avengerof blooduntilhe standsbeforethe congregation.
