"Furthermore, you shall selectout of allthe peopleablemenwho fearGod,menof truth,those who hatedishonestgain;and you shall place[these] overthem [as] leadersof thousands,of hundreds,of fiftiesand of tens.
"He who sacrificesto any god,otherthanto the LORDalone,shall be utterlydestroyed.
So Israeljoinedthemselves to Baalof Peor,and the LORDwas angryagainst Israel.
some worthlessmenhave goneout from amongyou and have seducedthe inhabitantsof their city,saying,Let us goand serveothergods(whomyou have not known),
you shall surelystrikethe inhabitantsof that citywith the edgeof the sword,utterlydestroyingit and allthat is in it and its cattlewith the edgeof the sword.
"Ifyour brother,your mother'sson,oryour sonordaughter,orthe wifeyou cherish,oryour friendwhois as your own soul,enticeyou secretly,saying,Let us goand serveothergods(whomneitheryou noryour fathershave known,
"But you shall surelykillhim; your handshall be firstagainst him to puthim to death,and afterwardsthe handof allthe people.
Is not the iniquityof Peorenoughfor us, from whichwe have not cleansedourselves to thisday,although a plaguecameon the congregationof the LORD,
