The Phariseesand Sadduceescameup, and testingJesus, they askedHim to showthem a signfrom heaven.
Answera foolas his folly[deserves], That he not be wisein his own eyes.
But the Phariseeswentout and conspiredagainstHim, [as to] howthey might destroyHim.
Thensome Phariseesand scribescameto Jesusfrom Jerusalemand said,
And Jesussaidto them, "Watchout and bewareof the leavenof the Phariseesand Sadducees."
[Some] Phariseescameto Jesus, testingHim and asking,"Is it lawful[for a man] to divorcehis wifefor anyreasonat all?"
Thenthe Phariseeswentand plotted togetherhowthey might trapHim in what He said.
But Jesusperceivedtheir malice,and said,"Whyare you testingMe, you hypocrites?
On that day[some] Sadducees(who saythere is noresurrection)cameto Jesus and questionedHim,
saying:"The scribesand the Phariseeshave seated themselvesin the chairof Moses;
Nowon the next day, the dayafterthe preparation,the chief priestsand the Phariseesgathered togetherwith Pilate,
"For I sayto you that unlessyour righteousnesssurpasses[that] of the scribesand Pharisees,you will not enterthe kingdomof heaven.
When the Phariseessaw[this], they saidto His disciples,"Whyis your Teachereatingwith the tax collectorsand sinners?"
[Some] Phariseescameup to Jesus, testingHim, and [began] to questionHim whetherit was lawfulfor a manto divorcea wife.
"Shall we payorshall we not pay?"But He, knowingtheir hypocrisy,saidto them, "Whyare you testingMe? BringMe a denariusto lookat."
[Some] Sadducees(whosaythat there is noresurrection)cameto Jesus, and [began] questioningHim, saying,
And a lawyerstoodup and put Him to the test,saying,"Teacher,whatshall I doto inheriteternallife?"
Others,to test[Him], were demandingof Him a signfrom heaven.
But He detectedtheir trickeryand saidto them,
Nowthere cameto Him someof the Sadducees(who saythat there is noresurrection),
They were sayingthis,testingHim, sothat they might havegrounds for accusingHim. But Jesusstoopeddownand with His fingerwroteon the ground.
As they were speakingto the people,the priestsand the captainof the temple[guard] and the Sadduceescameup to them,
But the high priestroseup, alongwith allhis associates(that is the sectof the Sadducees),and they were filledwith jealousy.
