He sentand had Johnbeheadedin the prison.
but they [continually] mockedthe messengersof God,despisedHis wordsand scoffedat His prophets,untilthe wrathof the LORDaroseagainst His people,untiltherewas noremedy.
"In vainI have struckyour sons;They acceptednochastening.Your swordhas devouredyour prophetsLike a destroyinglion.
And his headwas broughton a platterand givento the girl,and she broughtit to her mother.
Although he was grieved,the kingcommanded[it] to be givenbecauseof his oaths,and because of his dinner guests.
but I sayto you that Elijahalreadycame,and they did not recognizehim, but didto him whateverthey wished.Soalsothe Sonof Manis goingto sufferat their hands."
"But I sayto you that Elijahhas indeedcome,and they didto him whateverthey wished,justas it is writtenof him."
Herodsaid,"I myselfhad Johnbeheaded;but whois this manaboutwhomI hearsuch things?"And he kept tryingto seeHim.
Whenthey have finishedtheir testimony,the beastthat comesup out of the abysswill makewarwith them, and overcomethem and killthem.
