"But shall we say,'From men?"--they were afraidof the people,for everyoneconsideredJohnto have beena realprophet.
"But whatdid you goout to see?A prophet?Yes,I tellyou, and one who is morethan a prophet.
Although Herod wantedto put him to death,he fearedthe crowd,becausethey regardedJohnas a prophet.
When they soughtto seizeHim, they fearedthe people,becausethey consideredHim to be a prophet.
They [began] reasoningamongthemselves,saying,"Ifwe say,'From heaven,'He will say,'Thenwhydid you not believehim?'
AnsweringJesus,they said,"We do not know."And Jesussaidto them, "Norwill I tellyou by whatauthorityI dothese things."
And they were seekingto seizeHim, and [yet] they fearedthe people,for they understoodthat He spokethe parableagainstthem. And [so] they leftHim and went away.
for Herodwas afraidof John,knowingthat he was a righteousand holyman,and he kept him safe.And when he heardhim, he was veryperplexed;but he used to enjoylisteningto him.
The scribesand the chief prieststriedto layhandson Him that veryhour,and they fearedthe people;for they understoodthat He spokethisparableagainstthem.
The chief priestsand the scribeswere seekinghowthey might put Him to death;for they were afraidof the people.
Manycameto Him and were saying,"WhileJohnperformednosign,yeteverythingJohnsaidaboutthis manwas true."
Thenthe captainwent alongwith the officersand [proceeded] to bringthem [back] withoutviolence(for they were afraidof the people,that they might be stoned).
