The chief priestsand the scribesheard[this], and [began] seekinghowto destroyHim; for they were afraidof Him, for the wholecrowdwas astonishedat His teaching.
Ahabsaidto Elijah,"Have you foundme, O my enemy?"And he answered,"I have found[you], becauseyou have soldyourself to doevilin the sightof the LORD.
Then the kingof Israelsaidto Jehoshaphat,"Did I not tellyou that he would not prophesygoodconcerningme, but evil?"
The kingof Israelsaidto Jehoshaphat,"There is yetonemanby whom we may inquireof the LORD,but I hatehim, becausehe does not prophesygoodconcerningme, but evil.[He is] Micaiahsonof Imlah."But Jehoshaphatsaid,"Let not the kingsayso."
Thussaysthe LORD,the Redeemerof Israel[and] its HolyOne,To the despisedOne, To the One abhorredby the nation,To the Servantof rulers,"Kingswill seeand arise,Princeswill also bowdown,Becauseof the LORDwhois faithful,the HolyOneof Israelwho has chosenYou."
But when the chief priestsand the scribessawthe wonderful thingsthat He had done,and the childrenwho were shoutingin the temple,"Hosannato the Sonof David,"they became indignant
WhenJesushad finishedthesewords,the crowdswere amazedat His teaching;
They were amazedat His teaching;for He was teachingthem as [one] havingauthority,and not as the scribes.
"But shall we say,'From men?"--they were afraidof the people,for everyoneconsideredJohnto have beena realprophet.
And they were seekingto seizeHim, and [yet] they fearedthe people,for they understoodthat He spokethe parableagainstthem. And [so] they leftHim and went away.
The Phariseeswentout and immediately[began] conspiringwith the HerodiansagainstHim, [as] [to] howthey might destroyHim.
for Herodwas afraidof John,knowingthat he was a righteousand holyman,and he kept him safe.And when he heardhim, he was veryperplexed;but he used to enjoylisteningto him.
And He was teachingdailyin the temple;but the chief priestsand the scribesand the leading menamong the peoplewere tryingto destroyHim,
And allwho heardHim were amazedat His understandingand His answers.
The scribesand the chief prieststriedto layhandson Him that veryhour,and they fearedthe people;for they understoodthat He spokethisparableagainstthem.
And allwere speaking wellof Him, and wonderingat the graciouswordswhich were fallingfrom His lips;and they were saying,"Is thisnot Joseph'sson?"
Afterthese thingsJesuswas walkingin Galilee,for He was unwillingto walkin Judeabecausethe Jewswere seekingto killHim.
"Did not Mosesgiveyou the Law,and [yet] noneof you carriesout the Law?Whydo you seekto killMe?"
The officersanswered,"Neverhas a manspokenthe way thismanspeaks."
But as he was discussingrighteousness,self-controland the judgmentto come,Felixbecamefrightenedand said,"Go awayfor the present,and when I findtimeI will summonyou."
