The fearof the LORDis the instructionfor wisdom,And beforehonor[comes] humility.
Beforedestructionthe heartof manis haughty,But humility[goes] beforehonor.
It is not goodto eatmuchhoney,Noris it gloryto searchout one's own glory.
A man'spridewill bringhim low,But a humblespiritwill obtainhonor.
The proudlookof manwill be abasedAnd the loftinessof manwill be humbled,And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day.
The prideof manwill be humbledAnd the loftinessof menwill be abased;And the LORDalonewill be exaltedin that day,
For thussaysthe highand exaltedOne Who livesforever,whose nameis Holy,"I dwell[on] a highand holyplace, And [also] with the contriteand lowlyof spiritIn order to revivethe spiritof the lowlyAnd to revivethe heartof the contrite.
"Whoeverexaltshimselfshall be humbled;and whoeverhumbleshimselfshall be exalted.
"He has donemighty deedswith His arm;He has scattered[those who were] proudin the thoughtsof their heart.
"He has brought downrulersfrom [their] thrones,And has exaltedthose who were humble.
And He alsowent on to sayto the one who had invitedHim, "Whenyou givea luncheonora dinner,do not inviteyour friendsoryour brothersoryour relativesorrichneighbors,otherwisethey may alsoinvite you in returnand [that] will be your repayment.
"I tellyou, this manwentto his housejustifiedrather thanthe other;for everyonewho exaltshimselfwill be humbled,but he who humbleshimselfwill be exalted."
But the brotherof humblecircumstances is to gloryin his high position;
Humbleyourselves in the presenceof the Lord,and He will exaltyou.
But He givesa greatergrace.Therefore[it] says,"GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE."
You younger men,likewise,be subjectto [your] elders;and allof you, clotheyourselves with humilitytoward one another,for GODIS OPPOSEDTO THE PROUD,BUT GIVESGRACETO THE HUMBLE.
Thereforehumbleyourselves underthe mightyhandof God,that He may exaltyou at the proper time,
