Then they tookJeremiahand casthim into the cistern[of] Malchijahthe king'sson,whichwas in the courtof the guardhouse;and they letJeremiahdownwith ropes.Now in the cisterntherewas nowaterbut onlymud,and Jeremiahsankinto the mud.
"My lordthe king,thesemenhave actedwickedlyin allthat they have doneto Jeremiahthe prophetwhomthey have castinto the cistern;and he will dierightwherehe is becauseof the famine,for thereis nomorebreadin the city."
A stonewas broughtand laidoverthe mouthof the den;and the kingsealedit with his own signetringand with the signetringsof his nobles,sothat nothingwould be changedin regard to Daniel.
Thenthe kingwentoffto his palaceand spentthe nightfasting,and noentertainmentwas broughtbeforehim; and his sleepfledfrom him.
Then Jonahprayedto the LORDhis Godfrom the stomachof the fish,
and laidit in his own newtomb,whichhe had hewnout in the rock;and he rolleda largestoneagainst the entranceof the tomband went away.
And they wentand madethe gravesecure,and along with the guardthey set a sealon the stone.
