When they cameto the regionof the Jordanwhichis in the landof Canaan,the sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadand the half-tribeof Manassehbuiltan altarthereby the Jordan,a largealtarin appearance.
The LORDappearedto Abramand said,"To your descendantsI will givethisland."So he builtan altarthereto the LORDwho had appearedto him.
Then he proceededfrom thereto the mountainon the eastof Bethel,and pitchedhis tent,with Bethelon the westand Aion the east;and therehe builtan altarto the LORDand calledupon the nameof the LORD.
So Jacobroseearlyin the morning,and tookthe stonethat he had putunder his headand setit up as a pillarand pouredoilon its top.
In that daythere will be an altarto the LORDin the midstof the landof Egypt,and a pillarto the LORDnearits border.
And the sonsof Israelheard[it] said,"Behold,the sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadand the half-tribeof Manassehhave builtan altarat the frontierof the landof Canaan,in the regionof the Jordan,on the side[belonging to] the sonsof Israel."
The sonsof Reubenand the sonsof Gadand the half-tribeof Manassehreturned[home] and departedfrom the sonsof Israelat Shilohwhichis in the landof Canaan,to goto the landof Gilead,to the landof their possessionwhichthey had possessed,accordingto the commandof the LORDthroughMoses.
