Then Joshuacameat that timeand cutoffthe Anakimfrom the hillcountry,from Hebron,from Debir,from Anaband from allthe hillcountryof Judahand from allthe hillcountryof Israel.Joshuautterlydestroyedthem with their cities.
"Surely,the hillsare a deception,A tumult[on] the mountains.Surelyin the LORDour GodIs the salvationof Israel.
Thussaysthe LORD,"Let not a wisemanboastof his wisdom,and let not the mightymanboastof his might,let not a richmanboastof his riches;
"Yet it was I who destroyedthe Amoritebeforethem, Though his height[was] like the heightof cedarsAnd he [was] strongas the oaks;I even destroyedhis fruitaboveand his rootbelow.
"Therealso we sawthe Nephilim(the sonsof Anakare part of the Nephilim);and we becamelike grasshoppersin our own sight,and sowe were in their sight."
Wherecan we goup? Our brethrenhave made our heartsmelt,saying,"The peopleare biggerand tallerthanwe; the citiesare largeand fortifiedto heaven.And besides,we sawthe sonsof the Anakimthere."'
