The manwent away,and toldthe Jewsthat it was Jesuswho had madehim well.
But he wentout and beganto proclaimit freelyand to spreadthe newsaround,to such an extentthat Jesus couldno longerpubliclyentera city,but stayedout in unpopulatedareas;and they were comingto Him from everywhere.
Thisis the testimonyof John,whenthe Jewssentto him priestsand Levitesfrom Jerusalemto askhim, "Whoare you?"
"Come,seea manwhotoldme all the thingsthat I [have] done;thisis not the Christ,is it?"
Sothe Jewswere sayingto the man who was cured,"It is the Sabbath,and it is not permissiblefor you to carryyour pallet."
They askedhim, "Whois the manwho saidto you, 'Pickup [your pallet] and walk'?"
For thisreasonthe Jewswere persecutingJesus,becauseHe was doingthese thingson the Sabbath.
For thisreasonthereforethe Jewswere seekingall the moreto killHim, becauseHe not onlywas breakingthe Sabbath,but alsowas callingGodHis ownFather,makingHimselfequalwith God.
Thenthe Phariseesalsowere askinghim againhowhe received his sight.And he saidto them, "He appliedclayto my eyes,and I washed,and I see."
He thenanswered,"WhetherHe is a sinner,I do not know;one thingI do know,that though I was blind,nowI see."
The manansweredand saidto them, "Well,hereis an amazing thing,that you do not knowwhereHe is from, and [yet] He openedmy eyes.
They answeredhim, "You were bornentirelyin sins,and are you teachingus?" Sothey puthim out.
