They answeredand saidto him, "Ifthis Manwere not an evildoer,we would not have deliveredHim to you."
[saying], "Behold,we are goingup to Jerusalem,and the Sonof Manwill be deliveredto the chief priestsand the scribes;and they will condemnHim to deathand will handHim over to the Gentiles.
The chief priests[began] to accuseHim harshly.
sayingthat the Sonof Manmustbe deliveredinto the handsof sinfulmen,and be crucified,and the thirddayrise again."
ThereforePilatewentout to them and said,"Whataccusationdo you bringagainst thisMan?"
SoPilatesaidto them, "TakeHim yourselves,and judgeHim accordingto your law."The Jewssaidto him, "We are not permittedto putanyoneto death,"
As a resultof thisPilatemade effortsto releaseHim, but the Jewscriedout saying,"Ifyou releasethis Man,you are nofriendof Caesar;everyonewho makeshimselfout [to be] a kingopposesCaesar."
"The Godof Abraham,Isaacand Jacob,the Godof our fathers,has glorifiedHis servantJesus,[the one] whomyou deliveredand disownedin the presenceof Pilate,when he had decidedto releaseHim.
for whichI suffer hardshipevento imprisonmentas a criminal;but the wordof Godis not imprisoned.
