in the high priesthoodof Annasand Caiaphas,the wordof Godcameto John,the sonof Zacharias,in the wilderness.
Thosewho had seizedJesusled Him awayto Caiaphas,the high priest,wherethe scribesand the elderswere gathered together.
Thenthe chiefpriestsand the eldersof the peoplewere gathered togetherin the courtof the high priest,namedCaiaphas;
and Annasthe high priest[was there], and Caiaphasand Johnand Alexander,and all whowere of high-priestlydescent.
But oneof them, Caiaphas,who was high priestthat year,saidto them, "You knownothing at all,
Thenthey ledJesusfrom Caiaphasinto the Praetorium,and it was early;and they themselvesdid not enterinto the Praetoriumsothat they would not be defiled,but might eatthe Passover.
Jesusanswered,"You would havenoauthorityoverMe, unlessit had beengivenyou from above;for thisreasonhe who deliveredMe to you has[the] greatersin."
