The LORDhas spokento you, O remnantof Judah,"Do not gointo Egypt!"You should clearlyunderstandthat todayI have testifiedagainst you.
Yet He sentprophetsto them to bringthem backto the LORD;though they testifiedagainst them, they would not listen.
"But they becamedisobedientand rebelledagainst You, And castYour lawbehindtheir backsAnd killedYour prophetswhohad admonishedthem So that they might returnto You, And they committedgreatblasphemies.
The watchmansays,"Morningcomesbut alsonight.Ifyou would inquire,inquire;Comebackagain."
"But ifyou keep refusingto goout, thisis the wordwhichthe LORDhas shownme:
But he rebelledagainst him by sendinghis envoysto Egyptthat they might givehim horsesand manytroops.Will he succeed?Will he who doessuchthingsescape?Can he indeed breakthe covenantand escape?
"As for them, whetherthey listenornot-- for they are a rebellioushouse--they will knowthat a prophethas beenamongthem.
"However, ifyou have warnedthe righteousmanthat the righteousshould not sinand he does not sin,he shall surelylivebecausehe tookwarning;and you have deliveredyourself."
"Whyis the LORDbringingus into thisland,to fallby the sword?Our wivesand our littleoneswill becomeplunder;would it not be betterfor us to returnto Egypt?"
And with manyotherwordshe solemnly testifiedand kept on exhortingthem, saying,"Be savedfrom thisperversegeneration!"
SothisI say,and affirmtogetherwith the Lord,that you walkno longerjustas the Gentilesalsowalk,in the futilityof their mind,
"Moreover,he shall not multiplyhorsesfor himself, norshall he cause the peopleto returnto Egyptto multiplyhorses,since the LORDhas saidto you, 'You shall neveragainreturnthat way.'
"Then it shall comeabout, whenmanyevilsand troubleshave comeupon them, that thissongwill testifybeforethem as a witness(for it shall not be forgottenfrom the lipsof their descendants);for I knowtheir intentwhichthey are developingtoday,beforeI have broughtthem into the landwhichI swore."
[and] that noman transgressand defraudhis brotherin the matterbecausethe Lordis [the] avengerin allthese things,justas we alsotold you beforeand solemnly warned[you].
