Then the kingcommandedEbed-melechthe Ethiopian,saying,"Takethirtymenfrom hereunder your authorityand bringup Jeremiahthe prophetfrom the cisternbeforehe dies."
When the kingsawEstherthe queenstandingin the court,she obtainedfavorin his sight;and the kingextendedto Estherthe goldenscepterwhich[was] in his hand.So Esthercamenearand touchedthe topof the scepter.
So KingAhasuerussaidto QueenEstherand to Mordecaithe Jew,"Behold,I have giventhe houseof Hamanto Esther,and him they have hangedon the gallowsbecausehe had stretchedout his handsagainst the Jews.
And allthe hornsof the wickedHe will cutoff,[But] the hornsof the righteouswill be liftedup.
The king'sheartis [like] channelsof waterin the handof the LORD;He turnsit whereverHe wishes.
So Ebed-melechtookthe menunder his authorityand wentinto the king'spalaceto [a place] beneaththe storeroomand tookfrom thereworn-outclothesand worn-outragsand letthem downby ropesinto the cisternto Jeremiah.
But Ebed-melechthe Ethiopian,a eunuch,while he was in the king'spalace,heardthat they had putJeremiahinto the cistern.Now the kingwas sittingin the Gateof Benjamin;
"My lordthe king,thesemenhave actedwickedlyin allthat they have doneto Jeremiahthe prophetwhomthey have castinto the cistern;and he will dierightwherehe is becauseof the famine,for thereis nomorebreadin the city."
