Was not Abrahamour fatherjustifiedby workswhen he offeredup Isaachis sonon the altar?
And do not enterinto judgmentwith Your servant,For in Your sightnomanlivingis righteous.
"Lookto Abrahamyour fatherAnd to Sarahwho gavebirthto you in pain;When[he] [was but] oneI calledhim, Then I blessedhim and multipliedhim."
"For by your wordsyou will be justified,and by your wordsyou will be condemned."
and do not supposethat you can sayto yourselves,We haveAbrahamfor our father;for I sayto you that from thesestonesGodis ableto raiseup childrento Abraham.
The oathwhichHe sworeto Abrahamour father,
"And he criedout and said,FatherAbraham,have mercyon me, and sendLazarussothat he may dipthe tipof his fingerin waterand cooloff my tongue,for I am in agonyin thisflame.'
"But he said,'No,fatherAbraham,but ifsomeonegoesto them from the dead,they will repent!'
They answeredand saidto Him, "Abrahamis our father."Jesussaidto them, "Ifyou are Abraham'schildren,dothe deedsof Abraham.
"SurelyYou are not greaterthan our fatherAbraham,whodied?The prophetsdiedtoo;whomdo You makeYourselfout [to be]?"
And he said,"Hearme, brethrenand fathers!The Godof gloryappearedto our fatherAbrahamwhen he was in Mesopotamia,beforehe livedin Haran,
becauseby the worksof the Lawnofleshwill be justifiedin His sight;for throughthe Law[comes] the knowledgeof sin.
Whatthenshall we saythat Abraham,our forefatheraccordingto the flesh,has found?
and the fatherof circumcisionto thosewho not onlyare of the circumcision,but who alsofollowin the stepsof the faithof our fatherAbrahamwhich he had while uncircumcised.
For thisreason[it is] by faith,in orderthat [it may be] in accordancewith grace,sothat the promisewill be guaranteedto allthe descendants,not onlyto thosewho are of the Law,but alsoto thosewho are of the faithof Abraham,whois the fatherof us all,
By faithAbraham,when he was tested,offeredup Isaac,and he who had receivedthe promiseswas offeringup his only begotten[son];
But someonemay [well] say,"You havefaithand I haveworks;showme your faithwithoutthe works,and I will showyou my faithby my works."
You seethat a manis justifiedby worksand not by faithalone.
Then I tookyour fatherAbrahamfrom beyondthe River,and ledhim through allthe landof Canaan,and multipliedhis descendantsand gavehim Isaac.
