When Josephsawthat his fatherlaidhis righthandon Ephraim'shead,it displeasedhim; and he graspedhis father'shandto removeit from Ephraim'sheadto Manasseh'shead.
So Esausawthat the daughtersof Canaandispleasedhis fatherIsaac;
But whathe didwas displeasingin the sightof the LORD;so He tookhis lifealso.
But Israelstretchedout his righthandand laidit on the headof Ephraim,whowas the younger,and his lefthandon Manasseh'shead,crossinghis hands,althoughManassehwas the firstborn.
Josephsaidto his father,"Not so,my father,for thisoneis the firstborn.Placeyour righthandon his head."
Omrididevilin the sightof the LORD,and actedmorewickedlythanallwho[were] beforehim.
Godwas displeasedwith thisthing,so He struckIsrael.
Orthe LORDwill see[it] and be displeased,And turnHis angerawayfrom him.
Now the peoplebecamelike those who complainof adversityin the hearingof the LORD;and when the LORDheard[it], His angerwas kindled,and the fireof the LORDburnedamong them and consumed[some] of the outskirtsof the camp.
Balaamsaidto the angelof the LORD,"I have sinned,for I did not knowthat you were standingin the wayagainstme. Nowthen, ifit is displeasingto you, I will turnback."
for though [the twins] were not yetbornand had not doneanythinggoodorbad,sothat God'spurposeaccordingto [His] choicewould stand,not becauseof worksbut becauseof Him who calls,
Now [this] was the lotfor the tribeof Manasseh,for he was the firstbornof Joseph.To Machirthe firstbornof Manasseh,the fatherof Gilead,were allottedGileadand Bashan,becausehe was a manof war.
But the LORDsaidto Samuel,"Do not lookat his appearanceor at the heightof his stature,becauseI have rejectedhim; for God[sees] not as mansees,for manlooksat the outwardappearance,but the LORDlooksat the heart."
