Then the cupbearerand the bakerfor the kingof Egypt,whowere confinedin jail,bothhada dreamthe samenight,eachmanwith his [own] dream[and] eachdreamwith its [own] interpretation.
But Godcameto Abimelechin a dreamof the night,and saidto him, "Behold,you are a deadman becauseof the womanwhomyou have taken,for she is married."
Then it cameabout afterthesethings,the cupbearerand the bakerfor the kingof Egyptoffendedtheir lord,the kingof Egypt.
The captainof the bodyguardputJosephin chargeof them, and he tookcareof them; and they were in confinementfor sometime.
When Josephcameto them in the morningand observedthem, behold,they were dejected.
Then they saidto him, "We have hada dreamand thereis nooneto interpretit." Then Josephsaidto them, "Do not interpretationsbelong to God?Tell[it] to me, please."
"We hada dreamon the samenight,he and I; eachof us dreamedaccording to the interpretationof his [own] dream.
During that nightthe kingcouldnot sleepso he gavean orderto bringthe bookof records,the chronicles,and they were readbeforethe king.
"ThenDaniel,whosenameis Belteshazzar,was appalledfor a whileas his thoughtsalarmedhim. The kingrespondedand said,'Belteshazzar,do not let the dreamor its interpretationalarmyou.' Belteshazzarreplied,My lord,[if only] the dreamapplied to those who hateyou and its interpretationto your adversaries!
"I sawa dreamand it mademe fearful;and [these] fantasies[as I lay] on my bedand the visionsin my mindkeptalarmingme.
O Belteshazzar,chiefof the magicians,sinceI knowthat a spiritof the holygodsis in you and nomysterybafflesyou, tell[me] the visionsof my dreamwhichI have seen,along with its interpretation.
He said,"HearnowMy words:Ifthere is a prophetamong you, I, the LORD,shall makeMyself knownto him in a vision.I shall speakwith him in a dream.
