Thus ManassehmisledJudahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto domoreevilthanthe nationswhomthe LORDdestroyedbeforethe sonsof Israel.
And servedtheir idols,Which becamea snareto them.
Pharaoh'sservantssaidto him, "Howlongwill thisman be a snareto us? Letthe mengo,that they may servethe LORDtheir God.Do you not realizethat Egyptis destroyed?"
"You shall not worshiptheir gods,norservethem, nordoaccording to their deeds;but you shall utterlyoverthrowthem and breaktheir [sacred] pillarsin pieces.
"Watchyourself that you makenocovenantwith the inhabitantsof the landinto whichyou are going,orit will becomea snarein your midst.
bewarethat you are not ensnaredto followthem, afterthey are destroyedbeforeyou, and that you do not inquireafter their gods,saying,'Howdo thesenationsservetheir gods,that I alsomay dolikewise?'
sothat they may not teachyou to doaccording to alltheir detestablethingswhichthey have donefor their gods,so that you would sinagainst the LORDyour God.
"Whenthe LORDyour Godbringsyou into the landwhereyou are enteringto possessit, and clearsawaymanynationsbeforeyou, the Hittitesand the Girgashitesand the Amoritesand the Canaanitesand the Perizzitesand the Hivitesand the Jebusites,sevennationsgreaterand strongerthanyou,
"You shall consumeallthe peopleswhomthe LORDyour Godwill deliverto you; your eyeshall not pitythem, norshall you servetheir gods,for that [would be] a snareto you.
and they may come to their senses[and escape] from the snareof the devil,having been held captiveby him to do his will.
Thus Joshuastruckallthe land,the hillcountryand the Negevand the lowlandand the slopesand alltheir kings.He leftnosurvivor,but he utterlydestroyedallwhobreathed,justas the LORD,the Godof Israel,had commanded.
knowwith certaintythat the LORDyour Godwill not continueto drivethesenationsout from beforeyou; but they will be a snareand a trapto you, and a whipon your sidesand thornsin your eyes,untilyou perishfrom offthisgoodlandwhichthe LORDyour Godhas givenyou.
and as for you, you shall makenocovenantwith the inhabitantsof thisland;you shall teardowntheir altars.'But you have not obeyedMe; whatis thisyou have done?
"Therefore I alsosaid,I will not drivethem out beforeyou; but they will become[as thorns] in your sidesand their godswill be a snareto you.'"
