So Mosessaidto Joshua,"Choosemenfor us and goout, fightagainst Amalek.TomorrowI will stationmyselfon the topof the hillwith the staffof Godin my hand."

So Mosesarosewith Joshuahis servant,and Moseswentup to the mountainof God.
Thus the LORDused to speakto Mosesfaceto face,justas a manspeaksto his friend.When Moses returnedto the camp,his servantJoshua,the sonof Nun,a youngman,would not departfrom the tent.
"You shall takein your handthisstaff,with whichyou shall performthe signs."
The LORDsaidto him, "Whatis that in your hand?"And he said,"A staff."
So Mosestookhis wifeand his sonsand mountedthem on a donkey,and returnedto the landof Egypt.Mosesalso tookthe staffof Godin his hand.
Then Joshuathe sonof Nun,the attendantof Mosesfrom his youth,said,"Moses,my lord,restrainthem."
Theseare the namesof the menwhomMosessentto spyout the land;but MosescalledHosheathe sonof Nun,Joshua.
from the tribeof Ephraim,Hosheathe sonof Nun;
So the LORDsaidto Moses,"TakeJoshuathe sonof Nun,a manin whomis the Spirit,and layyour handon him;
"And having received it in their turn,our fathersbroughtit in with Joshuaupon dispossessingthe nationswhomGoddroveout beforeour fathers,untilthe timeof David.
Then Mosescameand spokeallthe wordsof thissongin the hearingof the people,he, with Joshuathe sonof Nun.
For ifJoshuahad given them rest,He would not have spokenof anotherdayafterthat.
Then the LORDsaidto Joshua,"Stretchout the javelinthat is in your handtowardAi,for I will giveit into your hand."So Joshuastretchedout the javelinthat was in his handtowardthe city.
So Joshuarosewith allthe peopleof warto goup to Ai;and Joshuachose30000men,valiantwarriors,and sentthem out at night.
