"For we have foundthismana real pestand a fellow who stirsup dissensionamong allthe Jewsthroughoutthe world,and a ringleaderof the sectof the Nazarenes.
Then Hamansaidto KingAhasuerus,"Thereis a certainpeoplescatteredand dispersedamongthe peoplesin allthe provincesof your kingdom;their lawsare differentfrom [those] of all[other] peopleand they do not observethe king'slaws,so it is not in the king'sinterestto let them remain.
While he was at the Gateof Benjamin,a captainof the guardwhose namewas Irijah,the sonof Shelemiahthe sonof Hananiahwas there;and he arrestedJeremiahthe prophet,saying,"You are goingoverto the Chaldeans!"
Then the officialssaidto the king,"Nowlet thismanbe putto death,inasmuchas he is discouragingthe menof warwho are leftin thiscityand allthe people,by speakingsuchwordsto them; for thismanis not seekingthe well-beingof thispeoplebut rathertheir harm."
Then Amaziah,the priestof Bethel,sent[word] to Jeroboamkingof Israel,saying,"Amoshas conspiredagainstyou in the midstof the houseof Israel;the landis unableto endureallhis words.
"It is enoughfor the disciplethat he becomelikehis teacher,and the slavelikehis master.Ifthey have calledthe head of the houseBeelzebul,how muchmore[will they malign] the members of his household!
and cameand livedin a citycalledNazareth.[This was] to fulfillwhatwas spokenthroughthe prophets:"He shall be calleda Nazarene."
saying,"Whatbusiness do we have with each other, Jesusof Nazareth?Have You cometo destroyus? I knowwhoYou are-- the Holy Oneof God!"
(He was one whohad been throwninto prisonfor an insurrectionmadein the city,and for murder.)
And they beganto accuseHim, saying,"We foundthis manmisleadingour nationand forbiddingto paytaxesto Caesar,and sayingthat He Himselfis Christ,a King."
And he releasedthe man they were askingfor who had been throwninto prisonfor insurrectionand murder,but he deliveredJesusto their will.
But they kept on insisting,saying,"He stirsup the people,teachingalloverJudea,startingfrom Galileeeven as faras this place."
But someof the sectof the Phariseeswho had believedstoodup, saying,"It is necessaryto circumcisethem and to directthem to observethe Lawof Moses."
cryingout, "Menof Israel,come to our aid!Thisis the manwho preachesto all meneverywhereagainstour peopleand the Lawand thisplace;and besideshe has evenbroughtGreeksinto the templeand has defiledthisholyplace."
They listenedto him up to thisstatement,and [then] they raisedtheir voicesand said,"Awaywith such a fellowfrom the earth,for he should not be allowedto live!"
"But thisI admitto you, that accordingto the Waywhichthey calla sectI do servethe Godof our fathers,believingeverythingthat is in accordancewith the Lawand that is writtenin the Prophets;
"But, that I may not wearyyou any further,I begyou to grantus, by your kindness,a briefhearing.
After Paul arrived,the Jewswho had come downfrom Jerusalemstood aroundhim, bringingmanyand seriouschargesagainsthim whichthey couldnot prove,
since they have knownabout me for a long time,ifthey are willingto testify,that I lived[as] a Phariseeaccordingto the strictestsectof our religion.
"But we desireto hearfrom you whatyour viewsare; for concerningthissect,it is knownto us that it is spoken againsteverywhere."
But the high priestroseup, alongwith allhis associates(that is the sectof the Sadducees),and they were filledwith jealousy.
They put forwardfalse witnesseswho said,"Thismanincessantlyspeaksagainstthisholyplaceand the Law;
For there mustalsobe factionsamongyou, sothat thosewho are approvedmay becomeevidentamongyou.
when we are slandered,we try to conciliate;we have becomeas the scumof the world,the dregsof all things,[even] untilnow.
For this[finds] favor,iffor the sakeof consciencetoward Goda personbears up undersorrowswhen sufferingunjustly.
