When Pilatesawthat he was accomplishingnothing,but ratherthat a riotwas starting,he tookwaterand washedhis handsin frontof the crowd,saying,"I aminnocentof this Man'sblood;see[to that] yourselves."
saying,"I have sinnedby betrayinginnocentblood."But they said,"Whatis that to us? See[to that] yourself!"
SoPilatesaidto them, "TakeHim yourselves,and judgeHim accordingto your law."The Jewssaidto him, "We are not permittedto putanyoneto death,"
saying,"This manpersuadesmento worshipGodcontraryto the law."
and I foundhim to be accusedoverquestionsabouttheir Law,but undernoaccusationdeservingdeathorimprisonment.
"If,then,I am a wrongdoerand have committedanythingworthyof death,I do not refuseto die;but ifnoneof those things is [true] of whichthese menaccuseme, no onecanhandme over to them. I appealto Caesar."
but they [simply] hadsomepoints of disagreementwith him abouttheir ownreligionand abouta deadman,Jesus,whomPaulassertedto be alive.
especiallybecause you are an expertin allcustomsand questionsamong[the] Jews;thereforeI begyou to listento me patiently.
norto pay attentionto mythsand endlessgenealogies,whichgive riseto mere speculationratherthan[furthering] the administrationof Godwhich is by faith.
he is conceited[and] understandsnothing;but he has a morbid interestin controversial questionsand disputes about words,out of whichariseenvy,strife,abusive language,evilsuspicions,
But refusefoolishand ignorantspeculations,knowingthat they producequarrels.
But avoidfoolishcontroversiesand genealogiesand strifeand disputesabout the Law,for they are unprofitableand worthless.
