They were stoned,they were sawn in two,they were tempted,they were put to deathwith the sword;they went aboutin sheepskins,in goatskins,being destitute,afflicted,ill-treated
He saidto them, "My cupyou shall drink;but to siton My rightand on [My] left,thisis not Mineto give,but it is for those for whomit has been preparedby My Father."
But Jesussaidto them, "You do not knowwhatyou are asking.Are you ableto drinkthe cupthat I drink,orto be baptizedwith the baptismwith whichI am baptized?"
Jamesand John,the twosonsof Zebedee,cameup to Jesus, saying,"Teacher,we wantYou to dofor us whateverwe askof You."
He said,"I have beenveryzealousfor the LORD,the Godof hosts;for the sonsof Israelhave forsakenYour covenant,torndownYour altarsand killedYour prophetswith the sword.And I aloneam left;and they seekmy life,to takeit away."
Now AhabtoldJezebelallthat Elijahhad done,and howhe had killedallthe prophetswith the sword.
And they broughtUriahfrom Egyptand ledhim to KingJehoiakim,who slewhim with a swordand casthis deadbodyinto the burialplaceof the commonpeople.
They saidto Him, "We are able."And Jesussaidto them, "The cupthat I drinkyou shall drink;and you shall be baptizedwith the baptismwith whichI am baptized.
Nowaboutthat timeHerodthe kinglaidhandson somewhobelongedto the churchin order to mistreatthem.
