Then Davidcomfortedhis wifeBathsheba,and wentin to her and laywith her; and she gavebirthto a son,and he namedhim Solomon.Now the LORDlovedhim
and sent[word] throughNathanthe prophet,and he namedhim Jedidiahfor the LORD'Ssake.
Now theseare the namesof those whowere bornto him in Jerusalem:Shammua,Shobab,Nathan,Solomon,
"Whenyour daysare completeand you liedownwith your fathers,I will raiseup your descendantafteryou, whowill comeforthfrom you, and I will establishhis kingdom.
But he did not inviteNathanthe prophet,Benaiah,the mightymen,and Solomonhis brother.
Then Nathanspoketo Bathshebathe motherof Solomon,saying,"Have you not heardthat Adonijahthe sonof Haggithhas becomeking,and Davidour lorddoes not know[it]?
Then KingDavidsaidto the entireassembly,"My sonSolomon,whom aloneGodhas chosen,is still youngand inexperiencedand the workis great;for the templeis not for man,but for the LORDGod.
Thesewere bornto him in Jerusalem:Shimea,Shobab,Nathanand Solomon,four,by Bath-shuathe daughterof Ammiel;
"Did not Solomonkingof Israelsinregardingthesethings?Yet among the manynationsthere was nokinglikehim, and he was lovedby his God,and Godmadehim kingoverallIsrael;neverthelessthe foreignwomencaused evenhim to sin.
WhenI was a sonto my father,Tenderand the onlysonin the sightof my mother,
Jessewas the fatherof Davidthe king.Davidwas the fatherof Solomonby Bathsheba who had been the wifeof Uriah.
Of Benjaminhe said,"May the belovedof the LORDdwellin securityby Him, Who shieldshim allthe day,And he dwellsbetweenHis shoulders."
