Zedekiahwas twenty-oneyearsoldwhen he becameking,and he reignedelevenyearsin Jerusalem.
Now in the ninthyearof his reign,on the tenthday of the tenthmonth,Nebuchadnezzarkingof Babyloncame,he and allhis army,againstJerusalem,campedagainstit and builta siegewallallaroundit.
It camealso in the daysof Jehoiakimthe sonof Josiah,kingof Judah,untilthe endof the eleventhyearof Zedekiahthe sonof Josiah,kingof Judah,untilthe exileof Jerusalemin the fifthmonth.
In the beginningof the reignof Zedekiahthe sonof Josiah,kingof Judah,thiswordcameto Jeremiahfrom the LORD,saying--
Now in the sameyear,in the beginningof the reignof Zedekiahkingof Judah,in the fourthyear,in the fifthmonth,Hananiahthe sonof Azzur,the prophet,whowas from Gibeon,spoketo me in the houseof the LORDin the presenceof the priestsand allthe people,saying,
for thussaysthe LORDconcerningthe kingwho sitson the throneof David,and concerningallthe peoplewho dwellin thiscity,your brotherswhodid not gowith you into exile--
"Thussaysthe LORDGodof Israel,Goand speakto Zedekiahkingof Judahand sayto him: "Thussaysthe LORD,'Behold,I am givingthiscityinto the handof the kingof Babylon,and he will burnit with fire.
But neitherhe norhis servantsnorthe peopleof the landlistenedto the wordsof the LORDwhichHe spokethroughJeremiahthe prophet.
