When the Philistinelookedand sawDavid,he disdainedhim; for he was [but] a youth,and ruddy,with a handsomeappearance.
Then he said,"Ifthey have comeout for peace,takethem alive;or ifthey have comeout for war,takethem alive."
Pride[goes] beforedestruction,And a haughtyspiritbeforestumbling.
So he sentand broughthim in. Now he was ruddy,with beautifuleyesand a handsomeappearance.And the LORDsaid,"Arise,anointhim; for thisis he."
Then Saulsaidto David,"You are not ableto goagainstthisPhilistineto fightwith him; for you are [but] a youthwhile he has been a warriorfrom his youth."
Then the Philistinecameon and approachedDavid,with the shield-bearerin frontof him.
