But to the marriedI give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wifeshould not leaveher husband
"Surely,as a womantreacherouslydeparts from her lover,Soyou have dealttreacherouslywith Me, O houseof Israel,"declaresthe LORD.
but I sayto you that everyonewho divorceshis wife, exceptfor [the] reasonof unchastity, makesher commit adultery;and whoevermarriesa divorcedwomancommits adultery.
[Some] Phariseescameup to Jesus, testingHim, and [began] to questionHim whetherit was lawfulfor a manto divorcea wife.
"Everyonewho divorceshis wifeand marriesanothercommitsadultery, and he who marriesone who is divorcedfrom a husbandcommits adultery.
(but ifshe does leave, she must remainunmarried,or elsebe reconciledto her husband),and that the husbandshould not divorcehis wife.
But to the restI say,not the Lord, that ifanybrotherhasa wifewho is an unbeliever, and she consentsto livewith him, he must not divorceher.
Yetifthe unbelieving oneleaves, let him leave;the brotherorthe sisteris not under bondagein such[cases], but Godhas calledus to peace.
NowconcerningvirginsI havenocommandof the Lord, but I givean opinionas one who by the mercyof the Lordis trustworthy.
But in my opinionshe is happierifshe remainsas she is; and I thinkthat I alsohavethe Spiritof God.
But thisI sayby wayof concession, not of command.
